Academy
Program for Composers 2023
Please note that by now all places for Composers are taken.
For students of composition as well as young professionals, impuls holds various moduls at its Academy, besides being a vivid meeting point for interaction with both young musicians respectively young ensembles as well as chamber music formations and other young composers on spot.
In addition to daily group lectures, discussions, talks and other forms of discourse programs* as well as concerts and presentations at the impuls Festival*, each participant is offered a couple of individual lessons with highly renowned composers (in general 3 tutors per participant, unless involved in large special programs, that come along with specific conditions as noted there) and can profit from many top professionals present at the Academy.
Accepted Academy participants are welcome to apply also for the various Special Programs impuls holds (multiple application possible, as many of these programs come along with selection – please check conditions and deadlines, and announce your interest to the impuls office, if not done already with your initial Academy registration).
These f.e. include intensive Special Programs such as KonzeptMusic with Peter Ablinger and Dimitrios Polisoidis, In Situ with Klaus Lang, Expect the Unexpected: The Writing-Game with Bernhard Lang or On Voices with Beat Furrer and Cantando Admont.
Special Programs with a focus on Electronics are offered with f.e. utrumque . Collaboratory or Performing augmented reality with Davide Gagliardi.
Participants can also submit compositions for the many Calls for Scores and Reading Sessions – such as with Klangforum Wien, Quatuor Diotima, hand werk, Decoder Ensemble, IEMA-Ensemble 2022/23 or NEKO3 – leading to feedback-meetings, tryouts, rehearsals and partly also public presentations at the impuls Festival.
In addition also conductors will give valuable feedback on the participants´ scores.
Lectures, demonstrations and meetings for composers are furthermore offered by experienced instrumentalists, such as Leopold Hurt, Jonathan Shapiro or Klaus Lang, sharing information on the possibilities and qualities of their instruments, on specific notation, its use in contemporary music and other aspects.
Last but not least, depending still of course on the young ensembles and chamber music formations applying for the Academy and their specific profiles and interests, further programs will be developed still, in order to strengthen a lively exchange and co-working-atmosphere and open up possibilities for mutual learning and benefiting from each other.
On top, composer participant of the impuls Academy 2023 will receive one free submission offer to Universal Edition’s publishing tool scodo (www.universaledition.com/scodo) and a special monthly rate of € 9.- for the first year, if accepted for scodo. Further information and a voucher for scodo will follow upon acceptance for the impuls Academy 2023.
Please check conditions and procedure of preselection for the various Special Programs, check the general Conditions for impuls 2023 and proceed to Registration.
