In addition to individual lessons, the preparation of solo works of the participants' choice and literature for percussion ensemble and mixed chamber music with percussion, Christian Dierstein's class also focuses specifically on new playing techniques and music-theatrical forms and also offers important practical information (from set-up help to organization).
Of course, the participants are also involved in the Special Program of Pierre Jodlowski and Christian Dierstein, and a couple of Calls for Scores. In a master class for composers, Christian Dierstein will furthermore focus on new playing techniques and touch f.e. mallets, tools and applications for percussionists.

Christian Dierstein studied with Bernhard Wulff in Freiburg, Gaston Sylvestre in Paris and Vassilios Papadopoulus in Mannheim. He has won numerous prizes at competitions and was a scholarship holder of the Deutsche Studienstiftung and the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart. Since 1988 he has been the percussionist of ensemble recherche and since 1994 of Trio Accanto with Nicolas Hodges and Marcus Weiss.

He is intensively engaged also with non-European music and free improvisation. In the 2010/11 season, he was one of the "Rising Stars" of the European Concert Hall Organization. His solo appearances with various orchestras have taken him all over the world. Numerous radio and CD recordings as a soloist and with chamber music prove his skills.

He has been Professor of Percussion and New Chamber Music at the Basel University of Music since 2001 and has given numerous percussion courses in Buenos Aires, Berlin, Chicago, Los Angeles, Geneva, Madrid, Moscow, New York, Oslo, Beijing, Valencia, Tbilisi and Winterthur. Christian Dierstein has been a percussion tutor at the International Summer Courses for New Music in Darmstadt since 2008, a lecturer at the impuls Academy in Graz since 2011 and a regular tutor at the Lucerne Academy since 2017.
