Academy

After offering vocal classes in several Academy editions, impuls 2023 will decidedly focus on a vocal ensemble edition for the first time. Selected vocalist will have the opportunity to work together with members of the internationally renowned ensemble Cantando Admont under the direction of Cordula Bürgi on important solo and ensemble works of the 20th/21st century as well as a work of the Renaissance, and to perform some of them in public. impuls 2023 will hereby put another focus on the vocal works of Beat Furrer. Together with the composer and Cantando Admont, the participants will have the opportunity to intensively explore specialities of performance practise (such as microtonal harmony) of the solo and partly also the ensemble works.

Cantando Admont will be present at impuls with the following vocalist: Elina Viluma-Helling soprano + Helena Sorokina mezzo-soprano + Bernd Lambauer tenor + Ulfried Staber bass + Cordula Bürgi musical direction

From July 26th to July 31st, 2023 the core times for working with them will be 10.00-13.00 + 15.00-18.00 (August 1st is then to be reserved for final rehearsals and a concert presentation at the impuls Festival). While the afternoons are devoted to working on these compositions, the mornings also include individual coaching, intonation and sound production in the ensemble. Of course, all participating vocalists are also invited to the special program "On Voices", can take advantage of many other offers the Academy holds (a.o. numerous discourse programs with daily group lectures and discussions, visiting the impuls festival programs) and use impuls as a lively meeting place and platform for interaction, exchange, knowledge transfer and networking. Furthermore, they will also find the opportunity to present themselves and perform within the framework of this vocal ensemble offers at the impuls Festival.

Please note: The selection of the works to be worked on at impuls 2023 will be made at a later stage, depending also on the possibility of implementation, the registration and selection of the young vocalists, as well as the interest and availability of instrumentalists. However, the participants will be informed in a timely manner about the scores and the arrangement, so that they can prepare themselves accordingly (which as a matter of fact is then also expected and necessary for an efficient development of rehearsals at impuls).

In the appendix you will find a list of potential compositions by Beat Furrer for the impuls Academy 2023 (according to current planning, “Akusmata”, for example, will be performed together with the IEMA-Ensemble 2022/23), as well as an example of a Renaissance work that could also be used for study.

Beat Furrer will furthermore offer a Special Program On Voices in collaboration with Cantando Admont. Amongst others, he will, in addition to a theory section, accompany rehearsals with you as vocalists and partly conduct some of his music himself.

Furthermore, a Call is open among the young composers participating in the Academy for the IEMA-Ensemble 2022/23, Cantando Admont and you as participating vocalists of the impuls Academy 2023.

In general, like all other impuls Academy participants, of course also vocalists are welcome to take part in the many discourse programs* impuls holds (from daily group lectures to discussions, talks etc.), enjoy the impuls Festival*, and take advantage of impuls as vivid meeting point and platform for interaction, exchange, knowledge-transfer, and networking.
