Mark Andre
Composer, Coach
Born in Paris in 1964, Mark Andre studied composition with Claude Ballif and Gérard Grisey at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris as well as with Helmut Lachenmann at the Stuttgart University of Music.
He received numerous awards for his compositions, like the "Prix de Rome de composition" at the Villa Medici Competition, the Prize of the Composition Competition of the City of Stuttgart, the Prize of the Frankfurt Opera, the Kranichstein Music Prize of the Summer Courses in Darmstadt, the Composition Prize of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, the Prize of the Berlin Academy of Arts, the Christoph and Stefan Kaske Composition Prize, the Production Prize of the Giga Hertz Prize for electronic music, the Orchestra Prize of the SWR Orchestra of the Donaueschinger Musiktage and the Composition Prize of the Gerhart and Renate Baum Foundation.
Mark Andre was appointed to the Berlin Academy of Arts in 2009. In the same year he was appointed professor of composition at the Dresden University of Music. In 2012, Mark Andre was named a full member of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. In 2012/13 he was a Fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin. In 2007 he received the orchestra award of the SWR Orchestra during the Donaueschingen Music Festival for "auf" for orchestra and electronics and in 2015 the orchestra award of the SWR Orchestra during the Donaueschinger Music Festival for "über" for clarinet, orchestra and electronics. In 2017 he received the Hans and Gertrude Zender Prize and the Art and Culture Prize of the Catholic Church, the Episcopal Conference.
