Agata Zubel

and Andreas Fischer

Call for Scores: Voice_Noise_Toys

Agata Zubel, department of voice + composition

The Department of Voice at the impuls Academy 2019 offers a wide range of activities to each participant. Certainly you will benefit from solo lessons with both tutors for voice and on top profit from their very specific additional know-how (Agata Zubel is also a renowned composer, Andreas Fischer has longtime-experience also as member of the world famous vocal ensemble Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart specialising in contemporary music and premiering various new compositions every single year). Of course you are free to bring along your own scores and literature for these solo lessons and name your specific interest. On the other hand impuls also prepares literature to be worked on (depending on your abilities, musicianship and your voice range amongst others), partly together with instrumentalists, partly as vocal ensemble. On top of that impuls 2019 holds two more special programs: "Voice_Noise_Toys" and "Tierkreis" by Karlheinz Stockhausen – the former to specially enable you to work together closely with the composers selected for this program.

Agata Zubel, composer and vocalist, lives in Wroclaw where she teaches at the University of Music. Known for her unique vocal range and the use of techniques that challenge stereotypes, Zubel gives concerts throughout the world and has premiered numerous new works. Agata Zubel’s compositions have been commissioned by prestigious music institutions such as Los Angeles Philharmonic, Seattle Symphony, Staatsoper Hannover, Westdeutscher Rundfunk (for Neue Vocalsolisten), Ensemble InterContemporain, Ultraschall Festival in Berlin, the Deutsche Welle in Bonn, the Wratislavia Cantans Festival, and the Grand Theatre – National Opera in Warsaw. Winner of several competitions, both as singer and composer, she also boasts such important accolades as the "Passport" Award of the "Polityka" weekly for classical music (2005), "Fryderyk" Award for Cascando – a CD programme of her own compositions, selected work (the grand prix) of the 60th UNESCO International Rostrum of Composers for the piece Not I (2013), the "Polonica Nova" Prize (2014), Coryphaeus of Polish Music (2016) and the "Badge of Merit to Polish Culture". Together with the composer and pianist Cezary Duchnowski, she established the ElettroVoce Duo. As a singer and composer, Agata Zubel has collaborated with several dozen festivals and philharmonic companies, operas as well as the world’s leading ensembles, such as: Klangforum Wien, musikFabrik, Inter-Contemporain, Ictus, London Sinfonietta, the Eighth Blackbird, Seattle Chamber Players, and San Francisco Contemporary Music Players. Her discography consists of more than a dozen titles, including albums dedicated to her own music – Not I (KAIROS) and Cascando (CD Accord), as well as her vocal interpretations of songs by Copland, Berg and Szymański (Poems), El-Derwid. Blots on the Sun and the most recent Dream Lake, respectively with song cycles by Witold Lutosławski and André Tchaikowsky.
