Hanns Holger Rutz (b. 1977 in Germany) is a sound artist, composer, performer, researcher and software developer in electronic art. His work, mainly comprised of sound and installation, live improvisation and electroacoustic composition, has been internationally exhibited, performed and awarded. In his creations, the development and research on software and algorithms plays an important role. A further focus is on compositional processes and their proper temporal embedding.
Rutz studied at the Electronic Studio of the TU Berlin, worked at the Studio for electroacoustic Music (SeaM) Weimar and on several research projects of the Institute of Electronic Music and Acoustics (IEM) Graz. He completed a PhD at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Computer Music Research (ICCMR) in Plymouth, UK. He lives and works in Graz, Austria, where he is currently running the artistic research project "Algorithms that Matter" (FWF AR 403).
