Our heartful thanks go to all composers, who have shared their works, materials and concepts with us for the impuls Composition Competition back in 2020. In April 2021 a jury consisting of composers and musicians (Mark Andre, Franck Bedrossian, Markus Deuter, Clara Iannotta, Andreas Lindenbaum) selected the following composers out of numerous applications sent in from more than 45 nations and four continents for impuls commissions:
Maurizio Azzan (*1987, Italy)
Oren Boneh (*1991, Poland/USA/Israel)
Sachie Kobayashi (*1990, Japan)
Anna Korsun (*1986, Ukraine)
These composers will take part in the upcoming impuls Composition Workshop in Vienna and Graz with Klangforum Wien coming along with commissions to write new pieces for the ensemble, that will be premiered in Graz together with one more work of a former nominee at the impuls Festival on February 10th, 2023.

Maresz), at IRCAM and with Salvatore Sciarrino. He has received a bachelor and a master in Philology and Ancient Literature from the University of Turin. His interest in visual and performing arts, as well as in ancient and contemporary literature, has deeply influenced his concept of music as a dynamic space-time network, in which instability is the pivoting existential condition.
His music has been performed in festivals and venues such as Biennale Musica di Venezia, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Wien Modern, Teatro la Fenice di Venezia, impuls Graz, Milano Musica, ManiFeste and IRCAM Concert Season, MATA New York, Budapest Music Center, Romaeuropa Festival, Tempo Reale, Festival Aperto, Darmstädter Ferienkurse, Time of Music Viitasaari, Gare du Nord Basel, MITO SettembreMusica, Mozarteum Salzburg, Open Recorder Days Amsterdam. Ensembles and soloists who have performed his works include Ensemble Intercontemporain, Divertimento Ensemble, Orchestra del Teatro la Fenice di Venezia, Nieuw Ensemble Amsterdam, Mdi Ensemble, Schallfeld Ensemble, Proton Bern, Ensemble Fractales, Platypus Ensemble, Ensemble Reconsil, Anna D'Errico, Antonio Politano, Ruben Mattia Santorsa, Jordan Dodson, Susanne Fröhlich, Anna Piroli, Marie Ythier, Cameron Crozman, Lorenzo Derinni and Davide Gagliardi and many others. Maurizio Azzan is winner of several composition competitions (National Prize of Arts from the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research ; Incontri internazionali “Franco Donatoni”; The Yvar Mikhashoff Trust for New Music) and was artist in residence at the Cité Internationale des Arts de Paris and in the framework of the residence-program offered by the Austrian Federal Chancellery in cooperation with KulturKontakt Austria.
Next projects include a monodrama-installation for voice, spatialized musicians and live electronics commissioned by Schallfeld Ensemble with the support of Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung and coproduced with IRCAM-Centre Pompidou, and a new work for voice and electronics commissioned by Alda Caiello with the support of SIAE. His works are published by Edizioni Suvini Zerboni-Sugarmusic S.p.A., Milan.
Oren Boneh
Composer Oren Boneh writes music characterized by its energy and dynamism. Its foundation is made up of vastly contrasting characters, ranging from abrasive and mechanical to humorous and supple. The music plays with listener expectations of the characters’ behaviors in order to create unpredictability and friction.
Oren has been commissioned and performed internationally by ensembles such as Vertixe Sonora, Alarm Will Sound, Quatuor Tana, Ensemble Meitar, Proton Bern, Loadbang, and the Divertimento Ensemble and at festivals such as Sonorities, Spaziomusica, Toronto International Electroacoustic Symposium, NYCEMF, Pulsar and the Electroacoustic Barn Dance. Most recently, he was commissioned by IRCAM to collaborate with choreographer Ayelen Parolin on two new works for tour in 2021-22. First Prize winner of the 2017 Salvatore Martirano Memorial Composition Award Competition for his piece "Winter Walks that Gravel my Voice", Oren has been selected in numerous other competitions such as the Franco Donatoni International Competition, the ASCAP Morton Gould Awards, the Loadbang Commission Competition, and Protonwerk. Oren has been a composer fellow at the Missouri International Composers Festival, Cultivate at the Copland House, Soundstreams, Tzlil Meudcan, CEME, Festival Mixtur, UC Davis Revision/s, and at the Millay Colony for the Arts, the Visby International Centre for Composers and the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts. Oren is currently based in Brussels. He received the George Ladd Prix de Paris to complete the IRCAM Cursus in Paris in 2019-20.
